Insider scoop on the OurPath programme
We love hearing about your experiences on the OurPath programme
Jazz joined OurPath in February this year. She has lost 3 stone already and has completely changed her outlook on health and wellbeing.
At 18 years of age, Jazz was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome and then with type 2 diabetes in December 2017. At 119kg (18 and ½ stone) at the time of her diagnosis, Jazz knew it was time to take control of her health.
Before Jazz started OurPath she tried to lose weight on her own by cutting out junk food and managed to lose a bit of weight herself. The motivation of her wedding in 2019 and the need to keep up with her active 3 year old son helped spur her along.
Jazz found out about OurPath after attending a Desmond day where a representative from the Solent Diabetes Association (a charitable company who funded the roll out of the OurPath programme in the Portsmouth area) spoke about the programme to people living with type 2 diabetes.
Jazz found the technology and the daily access to her mentor Rosie, who is a Registered Dietitian, the most rewarding part of the programme. She found that the face-to-face programmes she has previously tried were not as supportive because the meetings were only weekly, and her questions were not able to be answered straight away. Additionally, weighing in front of a group was something she disliked. Jazz loves that in the OurPath app only you and your mentor can see your weight reading.
Most importantly, Jazz has completely changed her mindset about health and wellbeing and really values the knowledge the programme has given her about her mindset, food and exercise. Jazz finds she no longer craves the foods she used to and is now trying new dishes, in addition to planning and prepping her meals. The Mediterranean quinoa is her favourite recipe in the OurPath recipe book and it is a food she had never tried before. It is now one of her family favourites!
Jazz has very kindly vlogged about her experience on the programme and created a four part series on her YouTube channel. She created the videos because she gets so many questions on her instagram. While we did not ask Jazz to do this, it has been great to hear about her experience and get an insider’s perspective on the programme.
A word from Jazz’s Health Coach Rosie
Right from day one Jazz embraced all aspects of the programme; from the nutrition recommendations, to improving her mindset and awareness around food, to increasing her activity levels wherever possible – including running up and down the hallway with her son! Jazz has been such an enthusiastic member of the OurPath community and a pleasure to mentor over the past 3 months.
Her willingness to learn was inspiring to see, as it was clear that she really believed in the importance of a healthier lifestyle and food environment, not only for herself but also for her family.
During the programme, she made the most of the ability to ask plenty of questions on the group or private chat so that she was well informed and fully understood all aspects of the OurPath programme.
She often shared many photos of her healthy balanced meals with the group and was so supportive of others on their journey towards a healthier lifestyle. The weight loss and improved blood sugar control are measures of incredible success, however, I am so proud to hear about the overall improvement in both her physical and mental wellbeing as she describes in these videos – a way of living that we aim to help members sustain for the long term. Well done Jazz, thanks for sharing your journey with us and keep up the great work!
